Disposable camera apps for weddings: the 5 apps compared

Scene, POV, Reveal, Fotify, Time to Flash: which apps really work like a disposable camera, which ones need installing, and what they cost.
You love the idea: turning every guest’s phone into a disposable camera, with a limited number of shots and the surprise of the developed film. When you start looking for an app, you soon notice that everyone uses the word “disposable”, including services that only have the filter. Here is how to spot a true digital disposable camera, and what the five most common apps are really worth.
A useful reminder before we start: most “wedding photo apps” (WedShoots, Wedibox, Invinee…) are galleries, online albums where guests upload the photos they took with their phone. A disposable camera app is something else: an activity, a game your guests play during the party. Galleries are compared in our comparison of wedding photo apps; here, we only talk about disposable cameras.
True disposable or just an album? The 3-question test
A disposable camera is not a vintage filter. It is a way of taking photos. Ask any app these three questions:
- Is the number of photos limited? A disposable camera means 27 shots. If the app is unlimited, your guests will fire away just like with their usual camera.
- Are the photos hidden? There is no screen on the back of a disposable: you don’t check, you don’t retake.
- Is there a reveal? The whole charm of a disposable is waiting for the film to be developed, then discovering everything at once.
Three yeses: it is a true digital disposable, so an activity. Just one: it is a gallery with a nice name. That is not a flaw in itself, but it is not the same party.
The comparison in one table
| App | No app needed | Shots | Surprise | Free |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time to Flash | Yes | 3 to 15 | 3 modes | 5 guests |
| Scene | Yes | ? | Yes | Offer |
| POV | Yes | You choose | You choose | 10 guests |
| Reveal | No | You choose | Yes | 5 guests |
| Fotify | Yes | Unlimited | Option | Offer |

The apps, one by one
Time to Flash: the disposable camera designed for weddings
We built Time to Flash so that a whole wedding plays along, from the best man to the grandparents. Your guests scan the QR code, type their first name and take photos right in the page, without installing anything or creating an account (there is an iPhone app for those who prefer it).
- You choose the number of shots, from 3 to 15 per guest.
- You choose how disposable it is: open album (guests can look back at their photos and retake a bad one), one chance only (each shot is seen once, right after it is taken), or true disposable (nothing is seen before the reveal).
- You choose the film style from several analogue looks, including a “disposable” one with the date printed in the corner like on old prints.
- The album is revealed the next day, to everyone at the same time, and you download all the photos in one go.
- Made in France, with the photos hosted in Europe.
The price: free for up to 5 guests, then a one-off payment with no subscription: €14.99 for up to 50 guests, €29.99 up to 100, €34.99 up to 150, €59.99 up to 300.
Scene
Scene also offers a disposable camera via QR code, with a film look and an album locked until the reveal time you choose. Its website doesn’t say whether you can limit the number of photos per guest, and without a set number of shots, you lose the heart of the game.
POV
POV is an American app: guests join the event via QR code, and the host sets the number of photos and the time of the reveal. For a wedding in France, its website and support are in English, and prices are in dollars.
Reveal: disposable, but you have to install it
Reveal ticks the disposable boxes, but your guests have to install the app (iPhone or Android), then reopen the link or rescan the QR code to join the album. With several generations around the tables, every installation loses guests along the way.
Fotify: a gallery with a disposable filter
Fotify uses the word “disposable”, but photos are unlimited and the reveal is only an option: shots can appear live in the gallery. Without a set number of shots or a guaranteed surprise, people go back to burst mode: it is a gallery, not a disposable camera.
What about WedShoots?
WedShoots often comes up in searches, but it is not a disposable camera: it is a gallery, with unlimited photos, visible straight away, and an app to install. Great for gathering photos, without the disposable game. We compare it with the other albums in our comparison of wedding photo apps.
A disposable app or real cardboard cameras?
Cardboard disposables have the charm of the object, but they quickly cost €10 to €15 each, you have to collect them at the end of the night and get them developed, and some of the films get lost or come out ruined. The app keeps the spirit (limited shots, the surprise) without the logistics: every guest already has their camera in their pocket. We go through both options in wedding disposable cameras: cardboard or app?
How many photos should each guest get?
This is THE setting that makes a digital disposable work. Too few, and guests don’t dare use them. Too many, and you are back to burst mode. For a wedding, 8 to 12 shots per person is a good starting point: enough for the ceremony, the drinks reception and the party, few enough for everyone to pick their moments. The full reasoning is here: why 10 shots beat 300.
How it works on the day
1. Before: you create the event, set the number of photos and the reveal time, and print the QR code (our QR code poster generator is free).
2. During: the QR codes sit on the tables, at the bar and at the entrance (see where to put the QR code). A quick word on the microphone is enough to get the game going.
3. After: the album is revealed, usually the next morning. It is often the best moment of the weekend (we explain why in the next-day reveal).
Our take
If you want a real activity, first rule out the unlimited apps: they are galleries, not disposables. Then rule out the ones that need installing: with guests of all ages, every download loses participants. What remains is an app with nothing to install, a limited number of shots, and settings you can adjust to the mood of your wedding.
That is exactly what we built with Time to Flash: one QR code, no app, limited shots, three ways to play, a film look, an album revealed the next day, and all the photos to download as well. It is free for up to 5 guests: try it with your best man or maid of honour before the big day.
Frequently asked questions
What is a disposable camera app for weddings?
It is an app that turns every guest’s phone into a disposable camera: a limited number of photos, no preview of the shots, and an album that is revealed all at once after the party, usually the next day. Guests join by scanning a QR code.
Is there a disposable camera app that doesn’t need downloading?
Yes. Time to Flash works without installing anything: guests scan a QR code and take photos straight in their browser, with just their first name. Be aware that some disposable apps, such as Reveal, require installing the app.
Which disposable camera app is free?
Time to Flash is free for up to 5 guests, with no card needed, which is enough to try the full game with your best man or maid of honour. For a whole wedding, it is a one-off payment with no subscription, from €14.99 for up to 50 guests.
How many photos should each guest get?
Between 8 and 12 photos per person is a good starting point for a wedding: enough to cover the day, few enough for everyone to pick their moments instead of firing away.
Is WedShoots a disposable camera?
No. WedShoots is a free photo gallery: photos are unlimited and visible straight away, and every guest has to install the app. There is no limited number of shots and no reveal.
