Wedding photo apps: the 2026 comparison

Guests photographing a wedding with their phones
Guests photographing a wedding with their phones

Wedding photo apps compared (price, installation, limits), plus the other option worth knowing: the disposable camera activity.

You want to collect the photos your guests take, and when you search for “wedding photo app” you find a dozen services that all promise the same thing. We reviewed them: what they cost, what they ask of your guests, and what they don’t say on their home page. And we show you the option most comparisons forget: the disposable camera activity, the one we built with Time to Flash.

Photo gallery or activity: two different things

Before comparing prices, you need to understand that there are two families, and they don’t do the same thing.

1. Photo galleries. This is what almost all “wedding photo apps” are: WedShoots, Wedbox, Wedibox, Invinee, Album Mariage Facile, Google Photos… An online album where everyone uploads the photos they took with their phone’s camera. It is a collection folder. Useful, but it doesn’t happen during the party: it happens afterwards, when guests remember.

2. The disposable camera activity. This is what Time to Flash does. Each guest scans a QR code and their phone becomes a disposable camera: a limited number of shots, a film look, and photos that stay hidden until the next day’s reveal. It is not a folder you upload to, it is a game you play during the evening. And the next day, you still get the whole album: the activity on top of the gallery.

In short: if you only want to gather as many files as possible, a gallery is enough. If you want photography to become a moment of your wedding, you need an activity.

Time to Flash: the disposable camera activity

Galleries wait for your guests to remember to send their photos. Time to Flash starts from the opposite idea: making photography an activity at your wedding, like the disposable cameras people used to put on the tables, without their flaws.

How it works: a guest scans the QR code, types their first name, and their phone becomes a disposable camera, right in the page, without installing anything or creating an account. They have a set number of shots (you choose, from 3 to 15), an analogue film look, and they can’t see their photos. During the evening, everyone waits for the right moment to use their last shots. The next morning, the album is revealed all at once, for everyone: it is developing the film, in a shared version.

What it changes compared with a gallery:

  • Photos are taken during the party, not “later, I promise”. Nothing to send, nothing to chase.
  • Everyone takes part, grandparents included: one scan, one first name, and off they go.
  • Chosen photos rather than bursts: with only a few shots, everyone aims at what matters.
  • A second big moment: the next-day reveal, which everyone discovers together.
  • You set the rules: open album, one chance only, or true disposable where nobody sees anything before the reveal.
  • And the whole album as well, downloadable in one go.

The price: free for up to 5 guests, then a one-off payment depending on the size of the wedding: €14.99 for up to 50 guests, €29.99 up to 100, €34.99 up to 150, €59.99 up to 300. No subscription, made in France, hosted in Europe.

The photo galleries, one by one

All the solutions below work the same way: your guests take their photos with their phone’s camera, then have to remember to send them to an album. That is where it falls down: during the party, nobody thinks about it, and afterwards, you have to chase people.

WedShoots: free, but needs installing

WedShoots belongs to Mariages.net, the French wedding supplier directory. The app is free. Each guest has to install it from the App Store or Google Play, create a profile, then join the album with a code. On the overloaded wifi of a reception venue, and for guests who are less comfortable with apps, this is where participation collapses.

Wedbox: another app to download

Same principle as WedShoots: a mobile app to download to join the album, with features available through in-app purchases. Same obstacle too: nothing happens until the guest has installed the app.

Wedibox: a gallery via QR code

Wedibox is an online album fed by a QR code. The free plan is limited; the full plans cost €27 to €73 (September 2026). Check carefully what the free plan doesn’t include before you start.

Invinee: a gallery via QR code

Invinee gathers the photos and videos guests upload after taking them into a gallery. It is a paid service, with a free trial. It still works like a collection folder: everyone has to remember to send their photos.

Album Mariage Facile: a gallery with a one-off payment

A shared album via QR code, at €35 on promotion or €72 at the regular price (September 2026), with storage limited to 12 months. Again, a folder where people upload their photos, with nothing happening during the evening.

Google Photos and iCloud: free, but not for everyone

Google Photos is free, but to add photos to a shared album, you need a Google account. Some of your guests don’t have one, or can’t remember it.

A shared iCloud album is effectively limited to iPhone users: your guests on Android can at best look, not contribute.

The detailed comparison is here: WhatsApp, Google Photos or a dedicated app?

WhatsApp: the default solution, and its flaws

Everyone already has it, so everyone thinks of it. But photos are compressed by default, the group becomes unreadable within 48 hours (photos drown in messages), and six months later, nobody can find anything. Perfect for swapping three photos the next day, not for keeping the memories of a wedding.

How to choose: the 6 criteria that really matter

1. Nothing to install. This is criterion number one, far ahead of the others. An app to download means opening an app store, finding a password, loading dozens of megabytes on the venue’s overloaded network. A good share of guests give up at this step (we talk about it in no signal at the venue).
2. No account to create. Same logic: a first name to type, and that’s it.
3. Real participation during the evening. A gallery depends on everyone’s goodwill after the party. An activity gets photos taken in the moment: that is the difference between a few photos sent by three cousins and an album that tells the story of the whole room.
4. A single album, downloadable in one go. All the photos in one place, retrievable at once, with no surprise fees the next day.
5. The number of photos per guest. Unlimited, and you mostly get blurry bursts from the dance floor. Limited, and everyone picks their moments, so the album is a pleasure to look through (see why 10 shots beat 300).
6. The time of the reveal. Photos visible live, or hidden until the next day? Live, it is a slideshow. The next day, it is a surprise (see the next-day reveal).

An app to install or a QR code with no app?

This is the first dividing line. On one side, native apps (WedShoots, Wedbox): every guest has to take the step of installing. On the other, QR code solutions that open in the browser (Wedibox, Invinee, Album Mariage Facile, Time to Flash): one scan, and you’re in.

Ask yourself just one question: “Will my 72-year-old aunt manage it on her own, with a glass in her hand, at 11 pm?” If the answer is no, rule out anything that needs an installation or an account. For a wedding, with several generations around the tables, the QR code almost always wins.

How much does a wedding photo app cost?

€0: WedShoots, Google Photos, iCloud, WhatsApp, and the limited free plans.
€15 to €40: most QR code solutions for a wedding of 50 to 150 guests.
€40 to €75: the bigger plans (300 guests, unlimited, videos, extras).

In any case, it is nothing like the €400 to €900 of a photo booth (the breakdown is in how much a wedding photo booth costs). Just beware of free services that become paid when it is time to download the album: we explain how to spot them in free wedding photo apps: what is really free.

The three mistakes that make an app useless

Choosing for yourself, not for your guests. The most beautiful interface is worthless if half the room can’t open it.

Not telling people before the day. A solution nobody has heard of produces nothing. Announce it on the invitation, remind people on the microphone (we have prepared a guest note you can copy and paste).

A single QR code in a corner. You need five or six, where people wait: tables, bar, entrance, toilets (see where to put the QR code, and our free QR code poster generator).

Our take

A gallery is still a folder: it gathers whatever your guests are willing to send, when they remember. If you want photography to be part of the party, for your guests to look up from their screens to catch the right moment, and for the next day to have its moment of discovery, choose the disposable camera activity.

That is exactly what Time to Flash does: one QR code, no app, a few shots per person, an analogue look, a reveal the next day, and the whole album as well. It is free for up to 5 guests: try it with your best man or maid of honour before the big day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best photo app for a wedding?

Most wedding photo apps are simple galleries where guests have to remember to upload their photos. For photos to really be taken during the party, choose a disposable camera activity with nothing to install, like Time to Flash: one QR code, a few shots per guest, a reveal the next day and the whole album as well.

Is WedShoots free?

Yes, WedShoots is completely free, for the couple and the guests alike. In return, every guest has to install the app on their phone to send their photos.

Do my guests have to download an app?

Not necessarily. WedShoots and Wedbox require an installation, but QR code solutions that run in the browser (Wedibox, Invinee, Album Mariage Facile, Time to Flash) open directly in the phone’s browser, with no app or account.

Is there a free wedding photo app?

Yes: WedShoots, Google Photos, shared iCloud albums and WhatsApp are free, and several paid services have a limited free plan (Time to Flash is free for up to 5 guests). Always check that downloading the whole album is included before the day.

How much does a wedding photo app cost?

From €0 to around €75, as a one-off payment. For a wedding of 50 to 150 guests, most QR code solutions cost between €15 and €40, which is ten to twenty times less than a photo booth.

How do I collect my guests’ photos after the wedding?

The simplest way is to choose a solution that gathers everything in a single album you can download in one go, and to leave the album open for a few days after the party for latecomers. Avoid sending everything through WhatsApp, which compresses photos by default.
